Can earth be rescued from its doom?
Can hell be emptied of its gloom?
Can death be driven from the tomb?
Can lifeless forms be made to bloom?
Ah yes, the answer is, "By love."
Love can liberate from despair,
Love turns hell to Paradise rare,
Love triumphs over death's affair,
Love 's life is far beyond compare,
And God, our God, conquers "By love."
May love in us be made complete,
May love bring selfhood's swift defeat,
May love clothe us with Christ replete,
May love lead us in worship sweet, --
Then fully His, we'll live "By love."
